05/10/2023

From using a lint roller to clean lampshades and curtains to using a squeegee to remove pet hair from carpets, these hacks from the team at Sunderlands Cleaning and Pool Supplies can help you get your home and business sparkling clean in no time.

1. Add a lint roller to your arsenal
Use a lint roller to clean lampshades and curtains. Lint rollers are not just for removing pet hair from clothes. They can also be used to clean lampshades and curtains. Simply roll the lint roller over the lampshade or curtain to remove dust and dirt.

2. Clean your blinds with a sock

Blinds can be tricky to clean but a sock can make the task much easier. Put a sock over your hand and dip it in a solution of equal parts water and vinegar. Run your hand over each slat to remove dust and dirt.

3. Don’t throw away your old toothbrushes

Grout can be difficult to clean but an old toothbrush can make the task much easier. Dip a toothbrush in a solution of equal parts water and baking soda, then scrub the grout to remove dirt and stains.

4. Clean your showerhead with vinegar

If your showerhead is clogged or not working properly, it may be due to a buildup of mineral deposits. To clean your showerhead, fill a plastic bag with white vinegar and tie it around the showerhead so that it is submerged in the vinegar. Leave it to soak for a few hours, then remove the bag and turn on the water to rinse the showerhead.

5. Use a coffee filter to clean LCD TV screens, computer screens and tablets

Coffee filters are great for cleaning screens because they are lint-free and won’t scratch your screen. Turn off your electronic device and then use a dry coffee filter to dust. Wipe it gently across the screen in a sweeping motion to remove dust and fingerprints.

6. Clean your microwave with lemon

Microwaves can become dirty and greasy over time but cleaning them is easy with a lemon. Cut a lemon in half and put it in a microwave-safe bowl of water. Microwave the bowl for a few minutes, then use the lemon to wipe down the inside of the microwave.

7. Use baking soda to clean your oven

Ovens can become dirty and greasy over time but baking soda can make cleaning them much easier. Make a paste of equal parts baking soda and water, then spread the paste over the inside of the oven. Leave it to sit for a few hours, then wipe it away with a damp cloth.

8. Use rubber gloves and a squeegee to remove pet hair

If you have pets, you know how difficult it can be to remove their hair from furniture and carpets. But a rubber glove can make the task much easier. Simply put on a rubber glove and rub it over the surface to remove the hair. If your carpets are covered in pet hair, a squeegee can make the task of removing it much easier. Simply run the squeegee over the carpet to remove the hair.

9. Clean your dishwasher with vinegar and baking soda

Dishwashers can become dirty and smelly over time but cleaning them is easy with vinegar and baking soda. Sprinkle baking soda on the bottom of the dishwasher, then pour a cup of vinegar into a dishwasher-safe bowl on the top rack. Run the dishwasher on the hottest cycle to clean it.
